Lemon drizzle cake easy and child friendly

This classic Lemon drizzle cake is an easy all in one child friendly recipe.

It’s quick to make and full of lovely citrus flavour with a light delicious zesty sponge and a crunchy lemon topping.


  • 3 Large eggs.
  • 6oz Self raising flour.
  • 6oz Caster sugar.
  • 6oz Softened butter.
  • 1Teaspoon baking powder.
  • Finely grated zest of 2 lemons.
  • 2 Tablespoons semi-skimmed milk
  • 3oz Granulated sugar.
  • Juice of 2 lemons.


Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit 175 Celsius.

Step 2

In a large bowl add all the cake ingredients (not the drizzle ingredients) and beat together until smooth.

Step 3

Grease and line a deep 8 inch loose bottomed cake tin and spoon the mixture in and level off, place in the centre of the pre-heated oven and bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick placed in the centre comes out clean.

Step 4

While the cake is cooling make the drizzle.

Step 5

Mix together the lemon juice and the sugar and drizzle over the cake while it is still warm. Allow to cool completely.
