Swedish meatballs, you know the ones if you have visited a well known Scandinavian chain store.

This authentic recipe calls for roasting the meatballs rather than frying and is so close to the original that you’ll just want more.

So good with chips and onion gravy.

Any leftover mix prior to cooking freezes very well so you can make a quick and easy tea in the week.

  • 250gm Minced Pork
  • 250gm Minced Beef
  • 1 Small onion very finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup White breadcrumbs
  • 2 small cold peeled boiled potatoes mashed
  • 1/4 - 1/2 Teaspoon Allspice

Step 1

Heat the onion gently until soft and golden in a couple of tablespoons of lightly browned butter and leave to go completely cold.

Step 2

Mash the cold potatoes and moisten the breadcrumbs in a little water.

Step 3

Mix all the ingredients into a smooth mixture of the right consistency, flavour generously with salt, white pepper and allspice. Any leftover mix prior to cooking freezes very well.

Step 4

Pre heat the oven to 350 Fahrenheit 180 Celsius.

Step 5

Using a dessert spoon scoop enough to make the meatballs into a similar size then place evenly in a shallow roasting tin or baking tray and roast for 40 minutes turning occasionally. Serve with your choice of accompaniments, also they are very good with chips and onion gravy.
