Tzatziki Authentic Greek Style Creamy Delicious


Tzatziki Authentic Greek Style with a little twist.

You will need to drain the grated cucumber overnight before mixing with the other ingredients.

This simple fresh dipping sauce works so well with skewered chicken and pitta breads.

So easy to make at home, ignore the shop bought stuff full of thickeners, this is real deal. Deliciously creamy with garlic and a hint of sweetness from a tablespoon of Honey.

Ok; so Honey is not that authentic but I believe it does add a balance to the sharpness of the yoghurt and vinegar.

A perfect recipe for this side dish is my Greek Chicken Souvlaki. You can make this on a BBQ or under a very hot grill.

Souvlaki is a Greek specialty made with tender cuts of Chicken, Pork or Lamb.

Please please only use full fat Greek style yoghurt for this, anything else is just not the same.


  • 400g Full fat Greek yoghurt.
  • 1/2 Cucumber unpeeled and coarsely grated.
  • 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
  • 1 Tablespoon white vinegar.
  • 1/2 of a teaspoon salt.
  • 3 Cloves of garlic very finely minced (a garlic crusher is ideal for this)
  • 1 Tablespoon fresh Dill very finely chopped.
  • 1 Tablespoon of good runny Honey.


Step 1

Grate the cucumber using the coarse side of the box grater. Place it in a fine mesh sieve over a bowl and allow it to drain overnight in the fridge. This is an important step to avoid watery Tzatziki.

Step 2

Mix together the Yoghurt, Honey, Garlic, Olive oil, Salt and White vinegar in a bowl and leave in the fridge overnight. This allows the flavours to develop further.

Step 3

Now take the grated cucumber and give it a gentle squeeze to remove any remaining water. Add the cucumber and the fresh chopped dill to the yoghurt mixture and combine well. Drizzle over a little Olive oil and serve with pitta bread.
